Fourth week of June Holiday

This week, I had a very packed schedule. On Monday, I came back from Perth to Singapore. By the time I reached, it is already very late and when I reached home, it is already midnight. I had a very tiring day; However, I went to bed at a very late time. On Tuesday, I went to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, in short, the ICA building to register for my identity card. However, I was quite lucky as when I was there, there are not many people that are registering their identity card. Previously, I was worried because whenever I go to the ICA building to register for my passport, the place is always very packed with people. Often, I have to wait for a very long time for my turn to come.

On Wednesday, I went back to school to return my report book to my form teacher. After that, I went out with one of my friend. We went to Toa Payoh to shop and maybe buy some things? But in the end, we did not buy anything as there was nothing that suits. However, I still had a fun time with her as we had not been going out for a very long time. On Thursday, I went back to school for our Chinese project. The Chinese project was entitled “DV Campus”. We had to film what our school is doing on Ideas Day. Basically, I have learnt more about Ideas Day as well, and I feel that through this “DV Campus” I have benefited as I now know what Ideas Day is all about and the good thing is that we can convey to others what is Ideas Day. Maybe this is what we always say: “one stone kill two birds”, as through a single project like “DV Campus” we can not only learn what Ideas Day is all about but also using different perspectives to look into a single event such as Ideas Day. Why do I say using different perspectives? It is because when we are interviewing both students and teachers, both have different views on Ideas Day. This helps us understand how both students and teachers feel when come to such events. However, Ideas Day is also a day whereby parents are also invited to share their thoughts and their concerns, which is a good way to interact as when both parties interacts and understand more, students can better understand their education.

Lastly, on Friday, I will be going back to school for my NPCC training and completing my mathematics project. Hopefully, I can finish it tomorrow! What a tiring but beneficial week!

Third week of June Holiday

I had fun this week. On Wednesday, I went to Lake Monger to see the black swans. The black swans are quite violent as when we go near them they will try to attack us. I think it is because they fear that we are going to catch them. Other than black swans, I saw some ducks as well. After the trip to Lake Monger, we went to Kings Park as well. Kings Park has very nice scenery; it has a glass bridge in there. When one stands on the glass bridge, one can see the scenery in just one single look. Other than seeing the scenery, we had a picnic. A picnic there is perfect for us to start our day. We had a fun time over there and I hope that I can go there one more time.

On Thursday night, I went to Southland one last time. In Australia, the shopping centres will be open on Thursday night till 9pm, but the thing is that it will only be open on Thursday night but not the other nights. Upon reaching Southland, I went to Crazy Clark’s to buy some snacks as on Friday, I will be going to Mandurah to catch crabs but the journey to Mandurah will be around an hour. Thus, snacks have to be provided for us? Anyway, I have to wake up early so that I will be able to catch more crabs! On Friday, I went to Mandurah to catch crab. The crabs there are quite big, but I can only manage to catch one of it. Maybe my luck was not there? However, my cousins caught more and thus, dinner will be crabs! I had a happy time eating the crabs as the crabs are not only big but juicy as well.

On Saturday, I went to Carousel. Carousel is a shopping centre; it is quite big as well but not as big as Garden City. However, it is still a nice place after all. Most of their shops are similar to Singapore’s. Thus, I did not really shop that much. On Sunday, which is today, I did not go out. I stayed at home the whole day. Reason being, I am going back to Singapore tomorrow. The same thing is going to happen every time, have to leave my uncle, aunty and cousins. No matter what, I have to leave. I just cannot bring the memories away but I want to have the type of fun again but not bring them back to Singapore. My mind is twirling right now; I hope I do not have to leave. Can’t I just stay for one more month?

Second Week of June Holidays

This week is quite fulfilling as well because I went to different shopping centres this week. Each shopping centre has its own features and entertainment. The first shopping centre for the week is Livingston, followed by Stockland. Both shopping centres are not as big as the third one we went to. The big shopping centre namely Garden City, it is a very big shopping centre, and it is full of entertainments. I feel that Garden City is quite similar to Singapore’s Orchard. Why do I say so? It is because Orchard has different entertainments and features as well. What is more is that it has also a lot of things in the shopping centre. Orchard is very big which is another similar point compared to Garden City.

Apart from shopping centres, I went to two different parks as well. On Wednesday, I went to the park to play football. The air in the park is very refreshing. The second park that I went to is Woodman Park. I went to that park for fishing, unfortunately, not much fishes were caught. However, I went to the park to play football as well. On Sunday, I went to Raeburn. Raeburn is a place where they plant different fruits. Raeburn is a very nice place as you can find different fruits such as apples, pears, persimmons and more. Raeburn sells fruits as well, although they sell fruits but they sell it at a very low price.

What I like about Australia is that the people here are very friendly, but not only the people but dogs as well. The dogs here are very cute and friendly, they allow you to feed them, touch them and also whatever you want to do to the dog except offending the dogs. The people here are friendly in the extent whereby they will approach you to feed their dogs. Why do I say this? It is because the situation is like what I had in the park. The lady approaches us simply because we kept on looking at her dog. It is so funny, and because we like dogs and so, when she approaches us and ask us whether we would like to feed her dog. We replied:” Yes!” straight away. I feel that every single one of us should be like the lady so that we can always live on happily without worries as when we are like the lady, we are as friendly as her and we are as open as her.

First Week of June Holiday

The first week of the June holiday has been exciting and I had a fulfilling time. On Tuesday, I have to go back to school for physics remedial and working for the maths project. On Wednesday, I went back to school for physics remedial and continuing my maths project. I had a fun time doing the maths project as I get to go around asking people to fill in the surveys as the surveys questions are very funny. The funniest thing will be when I saw the reactions of the people when they did the surveys. Anyway, I want to thank them for their time and the funniest thing, their expressions. After the math project, I went for my NPCC shooting competition, when I was in the home team academy, where we go to for shooting I was feeling pretty nervous. Eventually, all of the competitors were feeling nervous? However, due to our nervous, we did not clinch a very high position for the competition. After which, on Thursday, I took a midnight flight to Australia. When I was on the plane, I was too tired to speak. I slept through the whole flight. Then, when I am in Australia, my aunty and cousins came to pick all of us up. We had a fun time reuniting with one another. I thought to myself:”This is an annual experience, I will have to treasure every single moment with my relatives in Australia.”

On Saturday, we went to Southland to buy things. Southland is a shopping centre, it sells many things but mostly the things here are quite similar to Singapore. The only difference in both places is the duration of the shopping centres. In Australia, The operation hours are from 8am to 5pm unlike Singapore.

On Sunday, we woke up very early to go to their Sunday Market. We went to two different Sunday market, one is the Fremantle market and the other one is E-Shed. The things sell in the Sunday Markets are rather cheap but quite durable. Therefore, I bought quite a number of things from the Sunday Market. Another special thing about Australia is that on Sundays, they do not open any shopping centres. After the Sunday market, we went back home as it is my birthday. My birthday is the most fulfilling moment I have had because if we were in Singapore, there will not be so many people celebrating my birthday for me. I had a fun time in Australia, and I hope that I can stay here as my aunty, uncle and cousins are all in Australia. However, I wish to complete my education in Singapore first before immigrating to Australia.

How I made a difference

How I made a difference to the environment? Personally, I feel that the environment has got to do something with us. Thus, caring for the environment is one of the basic factors. The environment is our responsibility. We should care about the environment whenever we can and we should make a difference to the environment and not only to ourselves.

We can do many things to affect the environment. They are throwing rubbish on the floor, using stationeries which are not environmental friendly and many more. We should care for our environment and responsible for it. Throwing rubbish can be one major factor. When we throw rubbish, the rubbish will have to decompose and when it decomposes, there will be harmful gases around. When the harmful gases spread, we will be affected as well. Therefore, throwing rubbish is the first 'NO' and I do not throw rubbish anywhere. I always bring my rubbish to somewhere that rubbish bin can be seen and not just anywhere. It is because one cannot think that it is just one rubbish. One person creates one rubbish, ten people creates ten rubbish. Thus, the amount of rubbish increases. We must think likewise before actions can be done.

Some people may be lacking of global knowledge. Therefore, personally I feel that educating people on global knowledge is important. It is because if all of us know what is global warming all about and the actions that can be carried out for the environment, the environment can be saved. The environment cannot be clean and green without all of us, being an individual cannot do much for the environment. Thus, I can try to convey the message for the environment to people that is not clear so that they can have a better understanding of the environment. Thereafter, when one person conveys the message to another person, the message of environmental friendly will be widely spread and the environment can be clean and green!

In conclusion, everyone can help the environment. It is only depending on one's knowledge, capability and willingness. If all of us have the willingness to save our own environment and everyone is willing to make a difference for the environment by making some sacrifices, I am sure that the environment in the future will be clean and green. People will not have to worry much for the environment as well. Thus, keeping the environment healthy is a challenge for all of us and I feel that we should take up the challenge if we want to help the environment.

Growth Camp 2008

Growth camp 2008, I have always like camps and thus, when I heard of growth camp for this year, I was full of energy and was happy and excited for it. I feel that a camp is important as it can nurtures our confidence, teamwork and at the same time to balance our lives well.

Personally, I enjoyed my camp and I tried to be spontaneous throughout the camp. The first day of the camp, we had team games such as abseiling and flying fox. Why did I say it is a team game? I feel that if we did not have the encouragement from our friends, would we dare to step out? Thus, we will need support from others. The second day of the camp is also about team games but they are different. We had games such as low elements where we have to walk through steps via the support of our friends and games like kayaking. Kayaking is a game whereby two people will have to control a boat and at the same time, we have to balance it. Both games require team work. Therefore, teamwork is very important. After the games, we had our campfire and every single one of us enjoyed the campfire and our own performance!

The third day of the camp, all of us had to clear the area and after clearing we will set off back to school. In conclusion, I felt enjoyable throughout the days in the camp. I feel that all the things we do requires teamwork and thus, we should obey this golden rule. We must keep this in mind as well, ''being an individual cannot do much.'' I think that we need to treasure one another and not wait until the very last minute.

In my opinion, I feel that being able to balance our lives is very important. We cannot be too stressed and also not to relax so much. We should balance ourselves. Thus, that is where camps play the role. Therefore, I feel that we should always respect camps as camps play an important role in our lives. We have to play hard but at the same time, study hard too.

My career choice

What career I want to pursue? A teacher, a veterinarian, accountant, police officer or doctor? Choosing a job is not that easy, but if we have a dream, it will be much easier. It is because if we have a dream to pursue, we will have a direction to work towards and an aim to achieve.

As for what I want to be, I would like to be a private wealth advisor. In order to qualify for this job, I will have to be well presented with excellent communication skills, high levels of self-motivation and be confident and have initiative. A good team player and an excellent social networker, strong analytical skills, strong interest with experience in financial and wealth management. I will need to have a very good social and professional network of high net worth individuals. The career prospects of this job will include being a client manager who manages the different clients, and subsequently picking up hands-on experience to be promoted to a product, sales or portfolio manager who is responsible for a specific area. Lastly, protection or financial planners will be of a higher rank.

I want to be a private wealth advisor because I would like to help those people that are keen of investments. I would like to give them consultations and advices with their investments. I want to advise them on how to spend their money as well. On the other hand, I would also like to help those people that have high income to gain more money. I would like to help them because of the society which is very competitive and money in this case will help out a lot. Thus, the reason that I choose to do this job is to help those people in need of large sums of money.

Singapore Flyer

How has the Singapore Flyer provide us with an enriching lesson outside the classroom? In my point of view, I expect the ride to be scarier but to my surprise, it was not scary at all. In fact, the flight was as smooth as I have ever thought of. The flyer itself is very smooth and steady unlike of what we have expected. I felt excited before the flight as I expected something that is more thrilling rather than just a slow and steady manner. However, the flight is still an enriching one.

When all of us are on top of the flyer, all of us had a stunning view. The venue is a place that is covered in between some of our country’s landmarks such as Esplanade, Marina Golf Course, Singapore River, Floating Stadium, The Fullerton and many more. I think the venue that they choose to set up the Singapore Flyer is a good choice as the surroundings around the Flyer is full of centre attractions, such as, the F1 racing circuit, the integrated resorts and more.

Personally, my experience on the Singapore Flyer was a wonderful and meaningful one. It was wonderful as this is the first time I am getting up on the Singapore Flyer and I get to see Singapore’s landmarks and some of the magnificent structures at just one go. On the other hand, for meaningful, it is because I get to get out of the classroom and learn some concepts beyond the classroom. I get to experience the “real thing” rather than just textbook information and I think that when we get to see the “real thing” we get to experience and learn more. We can see things in another point of view as well.

In my opinion, I feel that the capsule itself is quite spacious and we get to gather and play around but at the same time we do our assignments as well and this shows that we not only play hard, but do our assignments “hard” as well. Although the capsule’s capacity is not as big as the whole class can enter but after all, we still get to have some memorable moments in the capsule. I feel that it does not mean that when something happens, it will be memorable. Instead, I feel that the memorable experience is that all of us get to learn new concepts in a new environment. The moment we learn something new, we share it with one another and this shows that we have team work. Team work is very important as nobody can do something outstanding without another’s person help.

The trip itself is worth going as this trip enriched us with learning new concepts. This trip also let us blends in with our own classmates as we do our assignments with each other and this does not leave any of us out. If we really got to learn, it is best to learn as a whole rather than an individual. After this trip, I will definitely recommend others to go up the Singapore Flyer as I feel that this is an experience that everyone should have. If possible, I would definitely go on the Singapore Flyer and experience it once more!

New Technology: A threat or a Promise (2)

Promise

Technology has become a promise because technology advancement improves our standard of living. The internet provides us with great convenience and efficiency which saves us all the time on traveling and lecturing. We are able to find educational websites by just a click of our fingers without having to travel all around to gather information. This is a good way for us to protect the environment as no time is needed for traveling which also means less people will get out of their houses using cars for transportation. Thus, when technology improves, our lives get to improve as well.

Threat

Technology is a threat as it creates many negative impacts on global climate. It is just like in the past when we do not have the equipments to work on; we worked on our bare hands. However, due to technology improvements, we are able to get the things we want easily and we need not care about what kind of things we will not be able to get. The fact is, since we are so reliant on technology, we tend to neglect the significance in protecting the environment.

New Technology: A threat or a promise

New technology, a threat or a promise? New technology will be more appropriate to be a promise. It is because nowadays more people are into technology and that means no more pens and papers. Personally, I think using technology is not a bad thing because we can use all the new technologies to do things we want and we can save a lot of things such as pens, papers, time and many more. We can save the environment as well, because we need not use the papers and pens anymore. That is why we can save and conserve the environment.

New technology is a promise as we can do things in a more convenient way such as no matter where we are and we are being assigned to an assignment, we are able to do it conveniently without looking much for the things that are required. We can just do our things anywhere and anytime we want it to be done. We can also multi-task when using technologies as since the new technologies are improving day by day, we are sure of completing our assignments no matter when we are assigned to it and using technologies is a good thing as it benefits both the adults and the kids.

It is such as, the adults can do their work by using the technologies and as for the kids they can do their work using technologies as well, and they can also learn new things via the new technology as nowadays there are more and more educational websites coming up and that can benefit lots and lots of kids. Their parents in a way or another do not need to coach their children so much when they do not have the time to spare, they can count on the educational discs and websites to let their children learn new things. As the time passes by, we are more into technologies rather than those things that we use in the past. That is why if new technologies are going to be up and technologies get to improve day by day, we can be benefited by it.

Nevertheless, new technologies will be a threat as well, because there are also lots of people out there who are not sure of the new technologies and they are unsure of what should be done and what can they do. This will lead them to a misunderstanding and they are very doubtful of themselves. Thus, they feel that new technologies are not that efficient because some parents may also think that although there are educational discs and websites coming up but it does not mean that their child will learn as efficiently, thus, some parents will not encourage new technologies as well. They will also think that if the new technologies are going to be up, their child will be more into the technologies and neglect the things around them. This is why some people think that having new technologies will be a threat.

Therefore, whether to be in the new technologies or not, and whether their opinions towards the new technologies are positive or negative, we should continue to upgrade ourselves no matter when is it. We should always do precautions so as we are not going to doubt ourselves as we do not need others to tell us what to do but to depend on ourselves.

Chinese New Year

Have you wondered why children and adults get so happy and excited when Chinese New Year is just round the corner? Chinese New Year is a happy occasion as it creates a better bonding for our relatives, friends and even us. It is because during Chinese New Year, it is the time for us to visit our relatives and friends. Chinese New Year has a total of 15 days. Personally, I think that Chinese New Year is the day for us to enjoy and relax.

Chinese New Year have some customs such as when a person goes to another person’s house, firstly, the guests will need to wish the relative or friend “Happy New Year.” If there are unmarried people or kids, they will get red packet when they greet their elders. They will also hold oranges in both hands and hand it over to the elders. This is a form of respect, and whenever elders that will be giving the red packet will be giving some form of blessings to the person who gets the red packets. Some businessman will also hire lion troupes to their companies so as to let their companies “prosper” their business in time to come as they think that the lions are animals that will bring them prosperity and wealthy.

That is why, this is the day for us to celebrate and have fun. The Chinese also believes in “Shou Sui” which means the kids will sleep late or rather stay awake till midnight, in order to let their parents live longer. The Chinese have also a few beliefs such as on the first day of Chinese New Year, married women are not allowed to return to their parents’ place. They can only do so on the second day. On the seventh day, the Chinese will celebrate “Ren Ri” which means everyone’s birthday. On that day, they will also “Lao Yu Sheng” which means when they lift up the food, they will say things that will let them feel good and what they wants to achieve for the new year. During Chinese New Year, the Chinese also believes in bad luck. They are not allowed to say things such as “dying” or “breaking”. It is because it means bad luck and they believe bad luck will befall upon them.

However, there are also some people who will not celebrate Chinese New Year as some of them do not believe in these customs and beliefs. Instead, they think that it is a waste of time and they should not waste money and time in this occasion. Moreover, they will not celebrate Chinese New Year due to some other reasons such as they do not follow the Chinese’s doings and they have feud with one another.

Chinese New Year is a happy occasion for both the adults and children. Thus, we should forget the unhappiness and continue this joyous occasion no matter where we are as it will be the 15 days that we will be together hand in hand and treasure one another. Furthermore, 15 days is not that long thus, we should carry out this activity in a pro-active way. Therefore, we should start now, doing our part in treasuring the people around us and celebrate this wonderful and joyous occasion as a whole.

Your Views on Chong Boon School Rules

Have you wondered why there are school rules in school? What is their importance and why we should abide to it day by day? Talking about rules, Chong Boon rules are quite reasonable. It is because if a school does not have the rules required, the school will be in a disaster. A school has hundreds of people, if all of us break the rules, the life of the school cannot be carried on. The school rules are for us to follow and not break. We have to do things in a clearer mind and not do things in a messy manner. Thus, I feel that having school rules is not a problem.

Firstly, Chong Boon School rules are reasonable as school is a place for us to learn and not break rules. Chong Boon has rules such as truancy, late coming, behaviour, attire or appearance and more. They are rules that are important as if a person is late or play truant all the time, the student will be taking up the classmates’ time and neglecting his or her own studies. Furthermore, if a student carries behaviour or attitude problem all the time or dressing in an ugly manner, the person is humiliating his or herself and embarrassing the school. Thus, carrying out necessary punishment is also a good way for us to learn.

On the other hand, teachers can also control the class better as a class without both school rules or class rules will be in a mess as well. Teachers are there to educate us, and if we waste the time meant for the rules instead of studies, we will be wasting both the teachers and our time. We have to keep in mind of how the teachers had helped us in education and we should repay them by studying well and listening in class attentively or whenever they talk to us.

Unfortunately, some people will think that having school rules is just a waste of time as it does not create an impact on anything. It is just school rules that we have to abide and the rules might not be essential to them. Some of them will just continue to break the rules and does not care for the people around them and in fact, do more bad things in the form of attracting attention. They feel that they are happier to break the rules rather than abiding the rules as when they break the rules it shows that they look more “cool”.

Nonetheless, since school rules are there, we have to abide to it. We should follow rules and do the things that are according to the rules. Chong Boon rules or rather other rules are for our own good. Thus, I think that we should follow according to the rules to everywhere we go. We have to ourselves follow the rules first and we can then tell others how they can do so as it builds in one’s responsibility too. This is a form of respect as well; it is because if you yourself do not respect others, how do u expect others to respect you? We should be responsible and respectful to others and not bring harm to ourselves and people around us.

Has the internet caused more harm than good?

Internet is a good resource for finding information. Often, students are able to find their information from internet for their studies. As for the adults, they are also able to get information from the internet for their work. Internet can also let some students to relax after studying for the whole week by playing some games online. Therefore, I think internet will do good to both the young and old.

It is because for the young, like the kids, they can learn some information from those educational websites. They can learn beforehand and they will benefit from the internet. The teenagers wise will be able to find information from the internet whenever they are not sure of. They can also learn more things from the websites such as they can read newspapers online rather than having to buy the newspapers and they can save the trouble. They can go to the online dictionary to search for the words that they are unsure of, instead of having to look for the book. It is because they will feel that it is troublesome and they would not feel like studying for it. The old, likewise, the adults will benefit too. It is because the adults can find work relative information from the internet and it can help them with a lot for work. The teachers can find valuable resources to teach their students so as their students will learn more information from the internet rather than just book information.

However, internet can also cause harm, as the students will be affected with their studies if they are being attached to the internet rather than doing homework. The teachers will also have a hard time teaching them if they only think about their online games rather than studying. It is because this will cause them to slack on their studies and they will concentrate more in their games and not studies. Hence, I think if they want to use the internet, personally I think that they should organize themselves as in when they should use the internet and when they should do their work given. Although it will cause harm to them but in general, as they plan themselves well they still can benefit from the internet by getting the extra information out of the classroom.

In conclusion, I feel that the internet will do well to the students rather than harm as we can get valuable and additional information from the internet. Plan your day well to benefit from the internet!

An interesting thing that had happened during the holidays

The activity that I had participated in during the holidays was extremely interesting and meaningful. I had participated in an outing with our teachers. We had a fun time together with one another as we had learnt many things from one another.

Firstly, we had all met up in school and soon ready to set off. We went to Marina Square for bowling. Although some of us felt bored during the game but after all, it is also a good way for both teachers and students to relax by playing a good game. The game ended and we went to Jack's place to have our lunch. We chat and laughed over some of the topics that we had talked about.

After the meal, we went back to school as the teachers had to do up a presentation to show what we had done during the few hours. I find that we can always learn a lot about them and vice versa. Therefore, if I have the chance, I would definitely want to go on a trip with them once again!!!
