Chinese New Year

Have you wondered why children and adults get so happy and excited when Chinese New Year is just round the corner? Chinese New Year is a happy occasion as it creates a better bonding for our relatives, friends and even us. It is because during Chinese New Year, it is the time for us to visit our relatives and friends. Chinese New Year has a total of 15 days. Personally, I think that Chinese New Year is the day for us to enjoy and relax.

Chinese New Year have some customs such as when a person goes to another person’s house, firstly, the guests will need to wish the relative or friend “Happy New Year.” If there are unmarried people or kids, they will get red packet when they greet their elders. They will also hold oranges in both hands and hand it over to the elders. This is a form of respect, and whenever elders that will be giving the red packet will be giving some form of blessings to the person who gets the red packets. Some businessman will also hire lion troupes to their companies so as to let their companies “prosper” their business in time to come as they think that the lions are animals that will bring them prosperity and wealthy.

That is why, this is the day for us to celebrate and have fun. The Chinese also believes in “Shou Sui” which means the kids will sleep late or rather stay awake till midnight, in order to let their parents live longer. The Chinese have also a few beliefs such as on the first day of Chinese New Year, married women are not allowed to return to their parents’ place. They can only do so on the second day. On the seventh day, the Chinese will celebrate “Ren Ri” which means everyone’s birthday. On that day, they will also “Lao Yu Sheng” which means when they lift up the food, they will say things that will let them feel good and what they wants to achieve for the new year. During Chinese New Year, the Chinese also believes in bad luck. They are not allowed to say things such as “dying” or “breaking”. It is because it means bad luck and they believe bad luck will befall upon them.

However, there are also some people who will not celebrate Chinese New Year as some of them do not believe in these customs and beliefs. Instead, they think that it is a waste of time and they should not waste money and time in this occasion. Moreover, they will not celebrate Chinese New Year due to some other reasons such as they do not follow the Chinese’s doings and they have feud with one another.

Chinese New Year is a happy occasion for both the adults and children. Thus, we should forget the unhappiness and continue this joyous occasion no matter where we are as it will be the 15 days that we will be together hand in hand and treasure one another. Furthermore, 15 days is not that long thus, we should carry out this activity in a pro-active way. Therefore, we should start now, doing our part in treasuring the people around us and celebrate this wonderful and joyous occasion as a whole.
